Money

Cash is king. 7-Eleven ATMs accept foreign cards. Carry ¥10,000–20,000 daily. No tipping. Tax-free shopping with passport (~10% off).

Transport

Get ICOCA card at airport. Google Maps for all trains. Reserve Shinkansen seats Jun 17. No JR Pass — individual tickets save RM 952.

June Weather

Rainy season — intermittent light rain. Buy quality umbrella in Japan. Pack waterproof jacket + walking shoes. Hydrangeas in peak bloom.

Crowd Strategy

Temples at 8:30am opening. Fushimi Inari 14:30–17:00. Pontocho 17:45–18:30. Walk 5 min from any landmark for empty streets.

Restaurants

Lunch 11:30am–2pm. Dinner 6–9pm (last orders 8:30). Many close 3–5pm. Izakayas open from 5pm.

Etiquette

Remove shoes at temples/ryokan. Onsen: wash before bath, towel outside water. No chopsticks upright in rice. Carry trash bag — few public bins.
